Blizzard rolls back Warcraft III: Reforged patch 3.0.1 over broken campaign saves

The update, meant to bring the remaster's visuals closer to the original game, broke existing campaign saves and was pulled to give players time to finish their acts.

Blizzard has rolled back Warcraft III: Reforged's patch 3.0.1 after its public release made existing campaign save files incompatible, MassivelyOP reported on October 12.

The patch was aimed at the remaster's visuals. Players had complained about Reforged's graphical changes, including unit size, animations and spell effects that they said affected play, and 3.0.1 was intended to bring those visuals back in line with the originals, according to MassivelyOP. The update spent several weeks on the public test realm, where Blizzard monitored feedback, before it was released to all players.

Once live, the patch left existing campaign saves unusable. MassivelyOP noted that Blizzard had warned of the incompatibility at the very top of the patch notes, but the change still caught enough players by surprise that the developers pulled the update, giving players time to complete the campaign acts they are partway through before 3.0.1 goes live again.

Blizzard has also added the save compatibility warning to the Battle.net launcher ahead of the patch's return, MassivelyOP reported.
