Ubisoft moves to close Trials studio RedLynx and cuts 70 jobs in Singapore

The proposed closure affects up to 52 roles in Finland, while Ubisoft Singapore, behind Black Flag Resynced, loses about a fifth of its staff.

Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind the Trials series, and has cut 70 positions at Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced and Skull and Bones. GamesIndustry.biz reported the cuts on October 14, and Eurogamer, IGN and Polygon carried the same company statement.

Today, we informed our teams of a proposal to close RedLynx in Finland, subject to the local change negotiation process, which would affect up to 52 positions. At Ubisoft Singapore, 70 positions have been impacted to align the studio with upcoming production needs.
Ubisoft, in a statement

Ubisoft said the Singapore studio remains an important part of its global production organization and that it was committed to supporting both teams. GamesIndustry.biz said the 70 roles amount to roughly a fifth of Ubisoft Singapore's headcount. Eurogamer reported that Ubisoft did not explain the RedLynx decision; GamesIndustry.biz said it understands the studio is not currently assigned to a project and has no sustainable standalone titles.

RedLynx's history

RedLynx was founded in 2000, and its first release was Trials, a browser-based motorcycle game, according to Polygon. Trials HD followed on Xbox 360 in 2009 and sold more than 2 million copies, and Ubisoft acquired the studio in 2011. Under Ubisoft it released Trials Evolution, Trials Fusion and Trials Rising, the last of them in 2019. Polygon reported that the studio has since ported The Division 2 to Stadia, released the mobile game Gwen's Getaway and supported development of 2025's Star Wars Outlaws, and that Ubisoft laid off up to 60 RedLynx staff in October 2025 and refocused the remainder on mobile games.

Trials creator Antti Ilvessuo, who left RedLynx and founded the studio Channel 37, told Eurogamer: "I'm proud of what we built at RedLynx, but my part in that story ended years ago."

Ubisoft Singapore

Ubisoft Singapore was set up as a support studio in 2008 and built the naval combat sections of the Assassin's Creed series before leading Skull and Bones, which shipped in 2024 after multiple delays, GamesIndustry.biz reported. Its most recent release, Black Flag Resynced, passed 3.5 million sales within two weeks according to Eurogamer, and Polygon reported a Steam peak of 99,000 concurrent players.

The cuts follow studio closures in Stockholm, Halifax, Winnipeg and Belgrade this year, along with six cancelled games and layoffs worldwide as Ubisoft reorganizes into six "Creative Houses", GamesIndustry.biz reported. Polygon noted that Ubisoft announced the week before that it would shut down its Rainbow Six mobile game.
