IO Interactive has delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light again, moving it to March 2027. The studio announced the change in a statement on social media on September 15 and said an exact release date would be shared later.
It is the latest in a series of schedule changes for the James Bond game. According to Polygon, 007 First Light was first set for a simultaneous March 27, 2026 launch on every platform before development delays moved it to May 27. The game released in May on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but IO pulled the Switch 2 version shortly before launch and pushed it to later in 2026.
To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.
The new delay followed public showings of the Switch 2 version. It was playable at Gamescom, and IO said in its statement that the same demo would be playable at Tokyo Game Show. Polygon noted that the game appeared in the September Nintendo Direct with a 2026 release window. Eurogamer reported that IO had never officially announced a Switch 2 release date, although a September 16 date appeared on Amazon Japan in late July.
IO did not give a reason for the delay beyond performance work. The studio said it had been encouraged by player feedback on the Gamescom build and that it would share further updates when ready.
GameSpot noted that another delay had looked likely, since summer officially ends on September 22 and IO had not communicated a release date. The outlet also recalled that IO boss Hakan Abrak said in May that the game needed "a bit more time to get it where we want it to be," telling The Game Business at the time that the Switch 2 version was targeting late summer.
The announcement arrived alongside a PC update that adds path tracing and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction support, according to IGN. IGN also reported that further additions are in the works for the game: a story DLC centered on Bawama, the pirate king warlord played by Lenny Kravitz, along with more TacSim challenges, a new gadget, New Game+ and a photo mode.
Both IGN and Eurogamer reported that 007 First Light has sold more than 4 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since its May release.
