1047 Games cuts staff again weeks after Empulse launch

Employees said on LinkedIn they had been let go in what several described as the Splitgate studio’s third wave of layoffs.

1047 Games has laid off more staff less than a month after releasing Empulse, its Titanfall-inspired shooter, according to employees who said on LinkedIn that they had been let go. The studio has made no formal announcement of the cuts.

The posts were collected by Game Developer and reported by Rock Paper Shotgun and PC Gamer. Several of those affected described the round as the studio’s third wave of layoffs, with Rock Paper Shotgun placing all three inside roughly a year.

Those who identified themselves include QA director Igor Krinitskiy, UI engineer Iannis Stefan Palaczkos and concept artist Jonathan Kuo, alongside an associate art director and a community specialist. Neither the size of this round nor its cause has been disclosed; an earlier round cut 45 workers, and the first was never quantified.

1047 Games broke through several years ago with Splitgate: Arena Warfare, a free-to-play shooter built around portals, and raised $100 million in 2021 on stated ambitions of becoming the next Riot Games. Little has landed since. Splitgate 2 launched badly enough to prompt a rollback and layoffs within a couple of months, and its relaunch as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded has not recovered the player numbers of its predecessors.

Empulse, announced earlier this year, drew a warmer initial reception but has not built an audience. Unlike Splitgate it is a paid early access release at $20, and concurrent player counts on Steam have sat below 1,000.

Chief executive Ian Proulx said in 2025, speaking about Splitgate 2’s relaunch, that the goal was to grow over time rather than aim for a large day-one audience. PC Gamer said it had approached 1047 Games for comment on the layoffs.
