Age of Empires IV and II: Definitive Edition are both getting Viking DLC

World's Edge has announced Raiders of the North for Age of Empires IV and The Viking Sagas for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

Developer World's Edge is bringing new Viking-themed content to two Age of Empires games at once. Age of Empires IV is set to receive the Raiders of the North DLC, while Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will get The Viking Sagas expansion, both planned for release by the end of 2026.

Each expansion adds new civilizations to its respective game. Age of Empires IV's Raiders of the North introduces the Scots, while Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition's The Viking Sagas covers the Viking era more broadly across the Danes, Varangians, and Saxons. World's Edge is also giving Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition new DLC and a redesigned Steam bundle alongside the two Viking releases.

The Viking Sagas follows Harald Hardrada

The Viking Sagas centers on the historical Norwegian leader Harald Hardrada across three campaigns. In "The Exiled Prince," Harald has been cast out of Norway and must build funds and prestige while serving the Varangians, eventually coming into conflict with the Byzantine Empress Zoe. "The Hard Ruler" follows Harald's war for the thrones of Denmark and Norway, and "The Last Viking" ends with his attempt to take the English throne from King Harold Godwinson - the historical campaign that marked the end of the Viking Age.

Once the campaigns are complete, players will be able to use the three new civilizations - including the Danish Jomsviking unit and swift Longships - in the game's other modes.

Raiders of the North adds the Scots

Age of Empires IV's Raiders of the North was first teased last month with the Vikings confirmed as one of its two new civilizations; World's Edge has now confirmed the Scots as the second. The DLC also adds two new biomes, Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer, along with four additional Crucible Mode missions and upgraded progression systems that can be played solo or in two-player co-op. Where the Vikings favor fast, aggressive play built around mobile infantry and early naval dominance, the Scots take a more defensive approach, using a unique food economy built on Highland cattle and fishponds, strong fortifications, and a Mustering Hall that can quickly field low-cost units geared toward either Highland or Lowland strengths.

World's Edge is not neglecting Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition either. Its next expansion, The Baltic Powers, adds the Danes and Poles, two challenge scenarios, two new game modes, more than 25 maps, and over 50 additional hero customization options; a beta for the DLC is running now through Thursday, August 6, for anyone who owns the base game. Starting Thursday, August 13, the base Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition package will also be bundled with the United States and Mexico civilizations and several hero cosmetic packs, with existing owners who have not bought that DLC receiving it for free.
