American Truck Simulator's next expansion heads to North Dakota

SCS Software has revealed the state DLC without a release date, leaving it queued behind South Dakota, Indiana and British Columbia.

SCS Software has revealed North Dakota as the next state expansion for American Truck Simulator, continuing the game's gradual eastward march across the United States. The reveal follows the Illinois expansion the studio released in May.

The DLC's store description lists Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot and Williston among the deliverable destinations, alongside smaller settlements such as Medora, which sits beside Theodore Roosevelt National Park. PC Gamer quotes the same description promising "sweeping prairies, fertile farmland, winding rivers, and endless skies", and notes that much of the freight players will be hauling comes from the state's oil and agricultural industries.

Along your route, you'll encounter memorable landmarks including the towering World's Largest Buffalo in Jamestown, the remarkable sculptures of the Enchanted Highway, the impressive Four Bears Bridge near New Town, the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot, and the striking North Dakota State Capitol in Bismarck.

An announcement trailer published on the day of the reveal shows semi trucks hauling cargo past herds of buffalo, small towns and oversized roadside statues. Rock Paper Shotgun notes that the state's roadside sculpture trail is likely to be what distinguishes it from the game's other prairie states, given how much of the map is open sightlines and agricultural and oil-industry freight.

PC Gamer reports that the addition brings American Truck Simulator to 61 pieces of DLC on Steam, though it notes that a number of those are free and others are minor additions priced well below a full state expansion.

Still no date, and a queue ahead of it

No release date has been announced, which Rock Paper Shotgun points out is the norm for a freshly revealed SCS expansion. North Dakota joins South Dakota, Indiana and British Columbia on the list of add-ons the studio has confirmed as in development. British Columbia is the one that changes the map's shape most: it is American Truck Simulator's first venture into Canada and extends the Pacific Northwest corner of the map.

The expansion is available to wishlist on Steam ahead of release.
