Arc System Works apologises for Marvel Tokon open beta PC problems

The studio published community troubleshooting steps and opened a feedback survey after the fighter’s pre-launch beta ran into performance issues on PC.

Arc System Works has apologised for gameplay and performance problems that affected the PC version of the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls open beta, which ran over the weekend and has now closed. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that PC players ran into a litany of issues across the test, leaving the studio investigating and working on fixes with the game’s full release due on August 6.

The beta had already faced PlayStation Network problems at the outset. Arc System Works first acknowledged the PC issues on social media early on the Saturday morning of the test, saying its team was looking into them.

We’re aware of the gameplay and performance issues currently affecting the PC version of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Our team is actively investigating these issues and working on a fix. We’ll share an update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we sincerely apologise for the impact this has had on your experience.

Troubleshooting steps, not confirmed fixes

The studio followed that statement with a six-part thread setting out what it called several community-suggested troubleshooting steps that may help improve performance. Arc System Works was explicit that these were not officially confirmed fixes, that results may vary depending on a player’s PC configuration, and that they should not be read as confirmation of the underlying cause of the reported problems.

  • Running the shader warm-up at launch
  • Checking display and Nvidia settings
  • Disabling or adjusting game recording and capture software
  • Verifying game files to work around an anti-cheat error on Steam

With the beta now over, Arc System Works has put up a survey for players who ran into problems and want to leave feedback. The intent is that surfacing the issues during the test leaves the studio better placed to resolve or at least mitigate them before launch, though that leaves a short window: the full release is set for August 6.

Also unresolved is the game’s availability. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is currently not set to be sold in a lengthy list of countries, which Rock Paper Shotgun attributes to the game’s PlayStation Network account requirements. Whether that list is narrowed before release is still an open question.
