Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, its overhaul of the pirate-themed Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, will arrive July 9, 2026 on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Alongside the date, the publisher outlined how the remake will run across current-generation hardware, including a beefed-up performance profile reserved for Sony's mid-generation refresh console.
A New Voyage, Rebuilt Studios
Black Flag Resynced is being built by Vantage Studios in partnership with Ubisoft Singapore, marking a full technical pass on 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag rather than a simple visual touch-up. The original game's high-seas pirate campaign, centered on privateer-turned-assassin Edward Kenway, remains one of the most fondly remembered entries in the franchise, and this rebuild appears aimed at bringing its naval combat and open-world sailing up to current technical standards.
Three Ways to Play on Base PS5
On standard PS5 hardware, Ubisoft is offering three distinct display options. A Performance mode targets 60 frames per second with standard ray tracing at an upscaled 2160p resolution, prioritizing smoothness for combat and sailing. A Fidelity mode instead runs at 30 frames per second but adds extensive ray tracing, still at upscaled 2160p, for players who favor visual detail over frame rate. Sitting between the two is a Balanced mode running at 40 frames per second with extensive ray tracing, also at upscaled 2160p, though this option requires a display capable of 120Hz or 240Hz output to function.
PS5 Pro Adds Extended Ray Tracing and Strand-Based Hair
Owners of PS5 Pro get a meaningfully upgraded experience regardless of which frame rate mode they choose. Ubisoft confirmed that extended ray tracing is active across all three modes on Pro hardware, an upgrade over base PS5, which reserves its more extensive ray tracing for Fidelity and Balanced modes while Performance relies on standard ray tracing. The console also benefits from an upgraded version of Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaling technology, which should translate to sharper image reconstruction at the same target resolutions. The more eye-catching addition is individual strand-based hair rendering, a feature typically reserved for the highest-end console visual modes. On PS5 Pro, protagonist Edward Kenway receives strand-based hair in every graphics mode. Nearby NPCs also get the upgraded hair treatment, but only while playing in Fidelity mode. During cutscenes, however, Ubisoft says strand-based hair extends to all characters on screen, regardless of which of the three modes the player has selected during gameplay.
Standard Feature Set Rounds Out the Package
Beyond the mode-specific enhancements, Black Flag Resynced supports HDR and Dolby Atmos, along with DualSense haptic feedback on PlayStation hardware. These additions sit alongside the ray tracing and resolution details as part of the broader technical presentation Ubisoft is building around the remake. With a confirmed release date and a detailed breakdown of its PS5 and PS5 Pro performance options, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is shaping up as one of the more technically ambitious remakes of the year. The gap between base PS5 and PS5 Pro output — particularly around ray tracing coverage and strand-based hair — gives players a clear incentive to weigh hardware choice ahead of the July 9 launch across PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
