Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has launched to a split reaction: praise for the fights themselves, and anger at nearly everything built around them. Polygon calls it the first Avatar video game with genuinely good gameplay, while describing the features surrounding those fights as severely undercooked.
The complaints are specific. Modes that were advertised days before release are not in the game yet, and the launch build does not include downloadable content that some players had already paid for.
What players say is missing
- A ranked mode, absent at launch
- Modes advertised in the days before release
- Downloadable content that buyers had already paid for
Reaction has been sharp enough that some players are comparing the release to an early access launch that was never announced as one, according to Polygon's report of community threads.
The reviews reflect the same split. The game currently sits at a 73% Mostly Positive rating on Steam, with reviews praising its central battles while criticising almost everything else.
