EA has detailed Season 4: Pacific Front for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, a two-phase update the publisher describes as the franchise’s largest seasonal release to date. The first phase was dated for July 21 and returns naval warfare to the series; a Top Gun: Maverick crossover produced with Paramount Games Studio follows in a second phase on August 18.
Phase one centres on Tsuru Reef, which PC Gamer reports is the largest map in Battlefield 6, built around water-borne combat. It arrives with the RCB-90 Patrol Boat and the 7.7m NSW RHIB transport barge, plus three weapons: the close-range BROD 3 carbine, the EF88 bullpup assault rifle for mid- to long-range engagements, and the VSSM, a suppressed designated marksman rifle using subsonic ammunition. Additional weapon attachments, a ranked mode for REDSEC and a long list of movement and vehicle balance changes are also included.
The Top Gun content
The August phase adds the F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-14 Tomcat alongside a two-seater jet styled after the films, Top Gun-themed skins and cosmetics, and three characters voiced by their original performers: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd (Lewis Pullman) and Adm. Solomon "Warlock" Bates (Charles Parnell). PC Gamer reports the same phase gives the original Battlefield map Wake Island a modern update, complete with carrier spawn points and beach assaults.
It’s a huge honor to appear in a long-running franchise like Battlefield with its millions of fans, and talented people working on it. And with Top Gun, it’s like two titans meeting.
Two modes carry the branding. Top Gun: Carrier Strike tasks teams with destroying the opposing aircraft carrier by capturing flags to trigger missile barrages, ending in an on-foot boarding assault. PC Gamer traces its lineage to Battlefield 4’s Carrier Assault and, before that, the Titan mode introduced in 2006’s Battlefield 2142, and notes BF Studios says the mode has been reworked for Battlefield 6 without specifying what changed. The second, Top Gun: Fighter Sweep, is a jets-only Gauntlet mission on a modified Tsuru Reef on the REDSEC side; the jets will also be usable on jet-only Portal servers.
A season aimed at lapsed players
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025 and sold more than 7 million copies in three days, the biggest launch in series history. Polygon notes its Steam user rating opened at 76% approval before slipping to a "Mixed" 67% amid complaints about the Battle Pass, balance changes, map sizes and movement. Naval combat had been one of the most requested additions since launch, and PC Gamer notes the return of a mode like Carrier Strike under a film licence is a pointed way to reintroduce it.
