Bethesda ties Oblivion Remastered fixes to its Switch 2 launch

The studio says the Switch 2 version carries optimisations it hopes to bring back to console and PC, but has given no patch date.

Bethesda has indicated that work done for the Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered could eventually reach other platforms, in its first substantial comment on the game’s long gap between patches.

The remaster last received a major update with version 1.2, which arrived just over a year ago and targeted performance and bug fixes. Rock Paper Shotgun reported that no comparable update has followed since, while player-reported problems have persisted, among them progression faults that can leave quest items failing to appear where they should.

Asked by YouTuber MrMattyPlays whether patches were planned around the Switch 2 release on August 11, Bethesda pointed to the port itself as the source of any improvements.

No commitment, and no date

The wording stops well short of announcing a PC patch. Bethesda named no version number and no timeframe, and did not say which optimisations are involved or whether they address the issues players have raised since launch. Rock Paper Shotgun noted that recent Steam reviews for the remaster remain mixed as a result of those problems.

The exchange followed a broader development update from Bethesda covering its current projects, among them confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Asked about that post, the studio said it reflected a change in how it intends to talk about its work.

Bethesda described the update as a shift in its approach to communications that Bethesda Game Studios had been considering for some time, rather than a response to recent changes at its parent company. Rock Paper Shotgun observed that the post nonetheless arrived close to a period of restructuring and layoffs across Microsoft’s gaming division, and treated the studio’s explanation as the answer it would expect either way.
