Big Walk, the co-op puzzle game from Untitled Goose Game developer House House, has arrived at a 93 on Metacritic across 13 scored reviews. Polygon reports that makes it the highest-rated new release of 2026 to date, ahead of Forza Horizon 6 and Mina the Hollower.
The score is drawn from a small sample by the standards of a major release, and a handful of outlets published unscored write-ups alongside the graded reviews. The critical consensus in them is narrow: reviewers keep returning to the puzzle design and to the way the game handles groups of players.
What reviewers singled out
GameSpot's Mark Delaney scored the game 9 out of 10 and called it one of the best co-op games ever made. He credited House House with a hands-off approach, leaving the secrets scattered across the game's open-world island for players to find rather than signposting them.
Across its realistic-looking landscape are many more cartoonishly colored structures of all shapes and sizes that stick out by contrast, and developer House House trusts each friend group to carve out their own adventure through the world.
Imran Khan gave the game five stars for Restart, writing that its puzzles pushed his group to talk solutions through and, over time, to read each other’s in-game signals — knowing what a teammate means when they sit down and raise their arms. Chris Schilling also awarded five stars, for Eurogamer, and pointed to the ending as the high point while declining to describe it, calling it a subtle twist on a familiar game design maxim.
Polygon’s own review, co-written by three of its staff, described the game as a hang-out that pushes players into closer contact with the friends they bring to it.
Big Walk supports groups of two to 12 players, and its puzzles scale to the size of the party.
