Bit Reactor rules out official mod support for Star Wars Zero Company

The studio told players in a Discord Q&A that no modding tools are planned for its Star Wars tactics game.

Star Wars Zero Company will not ship with official mod support, developer Bit Reactor confirmed during a Discord question-and-answer session reported by PC Gamer.

Lead producer Caydence Funk told players the studio respects the modding scene but has nothing planned on the tools front.

Why players expected otherwise

Bit Reactor is staffed by veterans of the XCOM series, and the comparison is the reason the question keeps coming up. XCOM 2 shipped with official development tools and has kept an active modding community for years, including Star Wars conversions that recast the game in that setting long before Zero Company was announced.

PC Gamer reports that mod support is among the most requested features in the game’s own Discord server, so the answer lands against a visible demand rather than a niche one. The studio has not given a reason for the decision, and its wording leaves the door open to a change after release without promising one.

What it means at launch

Without official tools, anything players build will be unofficial, and the scope of what is possible will depend on how the game is put together rather than on anything the studio supports. Community conversions have historically arrived for games without sanctioned toolchains, but they tend to be narrower and more fragile across patches.

For a tactics game that invites long campaigns and repeat runs, that matters more than it might elsewhere: much of XCOM 2’s longevity came from overhauls that added mechanics and campaign length rather than cosmetic changes. Alternative character models and gear are usually the first thing such communities produce, and the larger rebuilds tend to follow only where the game exposes enough to work with.

Bit Reactor has not said whether tools could follow later, and the studio has given no timeline for revisiting the question. For now the position is simply that nothing is planned, which leaves modding in Star Wars Zero Company as something players will have to attempt on their own terms after release.
