Ubisoft has fixed a bug in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced that could remove a player's ship from the game entirely. Title update 1.0.4 was scheduled to roll out on July 16 at 3pm BST, 10am EST and 7am PST, and addresses an issue where upgrading the Jackdaw while docked caused it to disappear.
Fixed an issue where upgrading the Jackdaw while docked can cause it to disappear, leaving players without their ship.
Losing the Jackdaw is close to run-ending in a game built around sailing between islands, leaving an affected player stranded wherever they had docked. Rock Paper Shotgun, which reported the notes, said its reviewer had not run into the bug while playing for the site's review. The site framed the fault as an unplanned mutiny: a captain returns from browsing upgrades at the harbourmaster to find the crew and the ship gone. Ubisoft trailed the update through the Assassin's Creed account on July 15, the day before the rollout.
The rest of update 1.0.4
- Localisation fixes for Simplified Chinese, Italian and Arabic
- Multiple lighting issues affecting indoor areas and caverns
- Players clipping into the ship's hull while swimming
- On PC, cutscenes locked to 30fps when graphics settings are set to custom
- A harpooning soft-lock triggered by boarding a ship immediately after calling out the rowboat
- Audio in which a single downed enemy sounded like several bodies hitting the ground
The update also changes the weather system to increase the chance of clear skies, and fixes a bug that could stop fog from appearing at all. Ubisoft's published notes carry further fixes that Rock Paper Shotgun flagged as containing story spoilers, and are linked from the announcement post.
The patch landed against a difficult backdrop for the game's developers. Rock Paper Shotgun reported that staff at Ubisoft's Barcelona studio were facing layoffs and had been protesting alongside Spanish unions in the days before update 1.0.4 shipped.
