Blizzard eases Venomous Abyss across four days of Patch 12.1 hotfixes

Hotfixes applied between August 31 and September 3 lowered Raid Finder health pools, softened the Coiled Altar and reworked Ula'tek's egg mechanics.

Blizzard applied World of Warcraft hotfixes on four consecutive days between August 31 and September 3, 2026, with most of the work aimed at the Venomous Abyss raid in Patch 12.1. Wowhead logged each day's list.

The August 31 round was largely corrective. At the Coiled Altar, Blizzard fixed a rare case of Coalesced Venom spawning inside a Virulent Mutation rim on Mythic, corrected Soul Sever's highlighting of which Manifestations of Dread would be destroyed, and reduced the Defilement of the Coiled Altar healing absorb by 20% on Mythic. On Ula'tek, damage from carrying eggs was reclassified as periodic rather than direct, the range of Grasping Fangs was increased, and an error that made the boss re-emerge during the intermission was corrected. The list also carried class bug fixes for Unholy Death Knight, Restoration Druid, Fire Mage, Mistweaver Monk, Holy Priest and Affliction Warlock, and cut the bone piles required in the Gnarldor Isle delve story from six to four.

September 1 raid nerfs

The September 1 hotfixes were the largest of the run. Raid Finder health pools fell 15% for Nek'zali the Soulcoiler and for the Entombed Sentinels' Breath and Blood of Ula'tek, and 20% for Vexhul and Ithraz on the Twin Fangs, where Eternal Venom's maximum-health damage effect was also reduced to 50% at that difficulty. Sszorak lost up to 10% health for smaller raid sizes on Normal and Heroic and now targets fewer players with Raging Crosswinds. Nymrissa Wavecaller and her murlocs in the Tidebound Grotto lost up to 10% health for lower group sizes, with Frost Orb damage reduced by up to 33% on Normal and Heroic and up to 17% on Mythic, and the orb's aura duration shortened to 12 seconds from 16.

The Coiled Altar was eased on every difficulty. Coalesced Venom and Venom Rupture damage came down on Mythic by 15% and 10%, Volatile Venom and Venom Rupture were reduced by up to 15% for smaller groups on the lower difficulties, and Guillotine and Grim Guillotine were changed to require three players to avoid their execution damage rather than five. In a separate report, Wowhead said the five-player requirement had been punishing for small raid sizes, where a group could be left without enough players to fill each soak.

Elsewhere in the same list, trinkets stopped dropping as abundantly in Delves, and the Gladiator's Distinction set bonus fell to 5% primary stat for healing specializations, from 10%. On the Mythic Twin Fangs, Eternal Venom was raised to 10 applications before it kills its target and Ravenous Feast's minimum target count was raised to four.

Ula'tek fixes on September 2 and 3

September 2 concentrated on Mythic Ula'tek, where Soul Constrictor's duration was cut to five seconds, Blight Vein damage fell 25%, and Blizzard added protections against a single Doomscale Egg triggering a pickup more than once. That list also changed the Feral Druid apex talent Unseen Predator to prefer targets that are neither immune nor taking heavily reduced physical damage, and repaired Great Vault items that could not be converted at the Catalyst.

The September 3 hotfixes closed a route through Ula'tek's Caustic Waves that let players swim under them and corrected a wrong damage value in the Blight Vein spell description. Blizzard also fixed the Spark in the Night achievement failing to grant credit in the Coiled Isle, Val or Naigtal, restored the Radiant Drake return NPC in Mythic+ Ruby Life Pools, and made The Darkwell remain for characters who completed the Arator quests in the Curse of Ula'tek campaign without finishing War of Light and Shadow.
