Blizzard has fired a World of Warcraft developer after development-only spells were used to instantly kill Mythic+ dungeon bosses for a party of players from outside the studio, according to an announcement reported by Rock Paper Shotgun.

The abilities involved were development-only, rather than anything a character can cast in the live game. Blizzard said they were used during a dungeon run to remove several Mythic+ bosses for a group of non-developer adventurers.

The studio's response does not stop with the dismissal. Blizzard said it would also move against the players who benefited from the run.

Rock Paper Shotgun reports that the violation was unearthed by players poring over combat logs from the run in question, rather than being announced first by the studio.

Blizzard's statement covers both halves of the incident: the developer, who no longer works at the company, and the accounts that took part in the run alongside them.
