Blizzard nerfs Venomous Abyss bosses after the Race to World First

Blizzard is cutting damage and easing mechanics across four encounters in World of Warcraft's Venomous Abyss raid, with the deepest cuts on Mythic.

Blizzard has posted a set of difficulty reductions for four encounters in World of Warcraft's Venomous Abyss raid, Wowhead reported on September 14. Blizzard said the changes would arrive with scheduled server maintenance in the week of September 14. Wowhead described the pass as post-Race to World First tuning and singled out the Mythic versions of The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek as receiving the largest cuts.

Sszorak and Twin Fangs get smaller adjustments. Sszorak's Tempest now deals 20% less damage on Heroic and Mythic, and Caustic Claws no longer leaves behind a pool of Caustic Residue on Heroic. On Mythic Twin Fangs, Corrosive Spit damage is down 20%. Rouse the Brood now spawns 10 Broodlings of Ithraz, and Visceral Burst takes half a second longer to cast.

The Coiled Altar

The Coiled Altar has the longest list of changes. Venom Rupture damage falls by 10% on Heroic and Mythic, and Mutagenic Venom damage drops by 15%. Wail of Terror now has a 12-second cast on Heroic and a 10-second cast on Mythic. On every difficulty, Dreadmarch no longer hits more players as the phase goes on, and Mythic groups face 25% fewer Fragments of Malacrass during the intermission. Wowhead characterized the result as a major reduction to the fight's phase-one healing check and to its entire second phase.

Blizzard also made the encounter's adds less erratic. Spiteful Soulcoiler spawns and post-interrupt relocations are now more predictable, and on Mythic one Soulcoiler always appears near Malacrass. Manifestations of Dread now deprioritize fixating on players who already have Unnerving Fixation. Manifestations revealed by interrupting Wail of Terror stay visible for three extra seconds.

Ula'tek

On Mythic Ula'tek, Putrid Membrane now lasts 30 seconds rather than an hour. Wowhead identified this as the penalty for hatching an egg, which it described as previously permanent. Serpent's Call now summons 8 Blightscale Spawn per wave in Stage 1, down from 13, and Stage 2 drops from 14 spawns per side to 12. The intermission egg count falls from 14 to 8. Stone Venom damage is reduced on all difficulties.

Raid Finder gets its own set of reductions for the fight. Failing to stand within Mother's Wrath now applies only one stack of Stone Venom to the raid. Doomscale Warden's Malice cast time rises from 1.5 to 5 seconds, and its damage is lower. Stage 2 Blightscale Spawn are cut to six, and damage from Ula'tek's Unchecked Rage and Gore Rattler's Rattler Slam is reduced.
