Bloober Team reveals Onyx: The Dark Grip as a Switch 2 exclusive for 2027

The Silent Hill 2 Remake studio's new horror game uses touchscreen and tilt controls and has to be played in handheld mode.

Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, revealed a new horror game called Onyx: The Dark Grip during the September 9 Nintendo Direct, Eurogamer reported. The game is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive due in 2027, though no more specific release window within the year has been established.

The reveal trailer showed that the game is built around touchscreen and tilt mechanics, and those controls require Onyx: The Dark Grip to be played in handheld mode — which rules out playing it docked on a television. Eurogamer framed the setup as a scare players can take on the go.

Players control Holden, a man stuck in a town shrouded by fog after being "beckoned by a voice." He works to uncover what is happening in the town by exploring its more unsettling locations and by reading the minds of the people he meets along the way.

Bloober Team had previously announced that it was developing a Switch 2 exclusive, and Eurogamer described Onyx as the studio delving back into the smaller-scope development roots of its earlier years. In recent years the studio has had its hands full with larger-scale games that have been received well: the Silent Hill 2 Remake was a major hit for the studio, and Cronos: The New Dawn appears to have gone down well too, according to Eurogamer.
