Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement delayed to 2027

Producer Koji Igarashi says development has entered its final stages, and that ArtPlay hopes to show gameplay footage soon.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement has been delayed to 2027, producer Koji Igarashi announced in a development update video reported by Video Games Chronicle. Igarashi, best known for his work on the Castlevania series, said the decision was taken with the project close to finished.

We have made the decision to move the game's release to the year 2027. Currently, the development of the game has entered its final stages.

He also addressed the reaction the announcement would draw. "We understand that this is disappointing news for our fans, but everyone on the development team is working hard to make the game the best it can be," Igarashi said, according to Video Games Chronicle, before thanking players for their continued support.

Screenshots now, gameplay footage still to come

The update was not only a date change. ArtPlay released new screenshots alongside the announcement, and Igarashi said the studio hopes to show gameplay before long. "We also hope to be able to share some gameplay footage with you soon, so we hope you'll look forward to it," he said.

The Scarlet Engagement was announced in June 2025 and is built around two protagonists rather than one. ArtPlay has described them as Leonard Brandon, "a young fighter with the Church's Black Wolves clan," and Alexander Kyteler, "a knight of the Kingdom's White Stag."

The team also lost a long-standing member earlier this year. Shutaro Iida, a veteran of both Castlevania and Bloodstained, died in February 2026 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. "His talent was exceptional," Igarashi said of his long-time colleague.

Igarashi did not narrow the new schedule beyond the year itself: as it stands, The Scarlet Engagement is a 2027 game with no season or month attached to it.
