Camelot Unchained adds mob loot drops for the first time in Update 0.47

The RvR MMO's weekend patch also rebalances gathering, boosts XP from player combat, and reworks two early-access zones.

Camelot Unchained shipped Update 0.47 over the weekend, and the headline item is one the RvR MMO has gone without until now: enemy mobs can drop loot. MassivelyOP reported that the patch introduces item drops from some enemy mobs for the first time, a change Unchained Entertainment framed as making landscape combat more satisfying.

The update is a broad one rather than a single feature. MassivelyOP described it as a kitchen sink patch that touches several areas of the game as the studio works to flesh out its early access experience.

Progression and gathering

Alongside the drops, Update 0.47 revises how players advance. The patch brings a more balanced gathering curve, an experience boost for fighting other players, and faster progression through a character's route to maximum level.

The experience boost on player combat is the choice that reads clearest against the game's design. Camelot Unchained is built around realm-versus-realm fighting, and weighting progression toward player kills points advancement at the activity the game is meant to be about.

Taken together the three changes pull in one direction: less time spent grinding a gathering curve, more return on fighting other players, and a shorter overall route to maximum level. The loot drops sit on the same line, giving the landscape combat between those fights something to pay out.

Two zones reworked

The other focus is the world itself. Unchained Entertainment said its art team continued a pass over the existing zones, with two of them singled out in this update.

A point of focus in this update is the continued beautification of our existing zones in the world of CU, courtesy of our art team. In Update 0.47, both Yggdra Forest and Silvermine Mountains received updates to their biomes which should help make them feel more lived in, less empty, and provide increased diversity of terrain to battle around.

Camelot Unchained remains in early access. MassivelyOP presented the update as a case for not writing the game off yet, with the studio continuing to build out the experience patch by patch.
