Capcom spent Tokyo Game Show 2026 releasing details about both Monster Hunter Wilds and its forthcoming Ascendance expansion, confirming that two monsters from earlier entries in the series will return in the expansion. MassivelyOP reported that the elder dragon Teostra and the flying wyvern Khezu are both joining the Ascendance roster.
Khezu was shown in action for the first time during a Capcom special stage at the show. PCGamesN, which watched the segment, described a hunt in which the monster extends its neck from a cave opening to strike an Alpha Araketa with paralyzing electricity, then lunges at the hunter. The outlet reported that the version in Wilds keeps the traits that made the monster a fan favorite in entries such as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Generations and Rise: a pale, rubbery hide, regressed eyes, and an encounter that plays out in near-total silence rather than to a boss theme.
PCGamesN also reported new behavior for the monster. Khezu climbs to the ceiling and uses its tail as a suction cup to swing from the rocks above while firing further paralyzing blasts, and it can swallow a paralyzed hunter whole, forcing the player to break free.
Quality-of-life changes for the base game
Alongside the expansion news, Capcom detailed a set of quality-of-life updates that MassivelyOP reported will be available in both the base game and Ascendance. They include faster weapon switching and a broader monster field guide carrying more granular information on subjects such as monster weaknesses.
- Faster weapon switching
- An expanded monster field guide with more detail on monster weaknesses
- The ability to change weapons and armor individually from the exterior item box rather than through loadouts
- More loadout slots for item sets and shortcuts
- Customizable HUD elements, including the health bar
Capcom has not announced a release date for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and neither report states one. PCGamesN said the studio has published hands-on material from a TGS demo of the expansion, which includes the new Boost Bracer mechanic.
