Capcom has released a demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, roughly a year and a half after the action RPG launched on Feb. 28, 2025. Polygon reported the release on Wednesday.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo covers the game's opening stretch, from the start through the fifth mission, listed as Chapter 1-3: To the Forest. Players create their Hunter and their Palico, the series' feline companion, and that progress carries over into the full game if it is later purchased.
Polygon put the length of that stretch at a few hours, enough to get familiar with the world of Wilds and decide whether the game is worth buying. That framing matters for a demo arriving this late in a game's life: the audience it is aimed at is the one that has spent the eighteen months since launch undecided rather than the one waiting to start.
What the demo leaves out
Two parts of the game are absent. Photo mode is unavailable, and so are all online features, which means the prologue missions cannot be played cooperatively. Polygon noted that the exclusion matters less in the opening hours than it would later, but that it does leave out the collaborative loop the series is built around.
- Content: the game start through Chapter 1-3: To the Forest, the fifth mission
- Progress carries over to the full game if purchased
- Photo mode is not included
- All online features, including co-op, are excluded
A restructured lineup
The demo arrives alongside a change to how Monster Hunter Wilds is sold. Capcom streamlined the available versions earlier in the week: a $79.99 Gold Edition now bundles several DLC and cosmetic add-ons together, while the base game has dropped to $39.99.
A paid expansion, Ascendance, is scheduled for 2027. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in development.
