An official Roblox companion game for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey has gone live, letting players sail an ancient, procedurally generated ocean just days before the movie's theatrical debut. Titled "The Odyssey: Defy the Gods" and published under the creator name "The Odyssey Movie," the 18+ rated experience has already logged more than 133,000 visits. The tie-in casts players as a crew trying to survive a hostile sea governed by capricious gods, mirroring the central conflict of Homer's original story: mortals pitted against myth on the long road home.
Building a Crew and Surviving the Voyage
"The Odyssey: Defy the Gods" is built as a cooperative survival sailing game. Groups of players form a crew together, then have to manage limited supplies for the length of their trip across open water. Staying on the gods' good side is part of the challenge too, since keeping them appeased is described as necessary for a safe passage.
Islands, Scavenging, and Puzzles
Between stretches of open sea, crews can put in at scattered islands to search for resources. Food and wood are the priorities, but players can also recover crew members who have gone missing along the way, rebuilding their roster as the voyage continues. The game arrives as a lead-in to Nolan's The Odyssey, which is set for release on July 17, 2026. The film adapts Homer's epic poem, following Odysseus as he fights his way home after the Trojan War, contending with mythical creatures and the wrath of the gods along the way. The Roblox tie-in gives fans a chance to engage with that same world before the movie reaches theaters.
