Remedy has delayed the physical edition of Control Resonant to October 15, three weeks after the game's digital release, IGN reported. The Control sequel still arrives digitally on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S; only boxed copies move.
Get ready to unleash Dylan Faden's paranatural abilities in warped Manhattan on September 24. We need just a little more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured - nothing stays contained forever.
The delay lands close to release and reshuffles the game's position in an unusually crowded autumn. Players waiting for a disc will be picking the game up alongside a run of October launches that includes Marvel's Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, Dune: Awakening, Silent Hill: Townfall and Minecraft Dungeons 2, and still ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19.
A day-one release Remedy is counting on
The studio has told investors it is banking on the sequel. Remedy boss Jean-Charles Gaudechon said earlier this month that the company positions Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise, as Remedy works to stabilise its finances following last year's multiplayer game FBC: Firebreak.
In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out.
For anyone buying on disc, that day-one purchase now falls three weeks later than planned. IGN, which went hands-on with the game earlier this year, wrote that Control Resonant “is shaping up to be exactly what it looks like: more Control, only designed as a melee action game as opposed to physics-driven third person shooter,” calling the combination potent.
Remedy did not give a reason for the physical delay beyond needing more time to deliver the boxed version, and the digital date across all three platforms is unchanged.
