Pearl Abyss has turned Crimson Desert into Crimson Desert Enhanced, and it is not charging anyone for the change. The revised version of the open-world action game is version 2.00.00, free to everyone who already owns it: install the update and the game becomes Enhanced.
That makes Enhanced a patch to the existing game rather than a separate edition sold alongside it. IGN characterises it as an update Pearl Abyss considers substantial enough to justify a new name for the full game, and notes that it folds in every update the game has received since launch — of which there have been many, arriving every few weeks.
New cutscenes and five more voiceover languages
The Enhanced version adds new cutscenes and story moments across the main questline, along with voiceover support in German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese, plus Arabic subtitles and interface text. Pearl Abyss had previously committed to a summer roadmap that included work on the core narrative, which IGN describes as a recurring criticism of the game at launch.
The skill system has been rebuilt
Alongside the story work, the skill system has been overhauled. A new resource called Abyss Link is spent on learning skills and is tied to Abyss Artifacts: using an artifact awards Abyss Links to a player's other characters. Each character keeps its own Abyss Link inventory, so builds do not draw on one another, and skill progression can be reset per character, refunding every Abyss Link already spent.
Eight new skills have been added for players to find and equip. According to the patch notes, they become available after a certain point in the main story.
What comes next
The patch is live now on every platform except the Mac App Store, where Pearl Abyss says it will arrive at a later time. To mark the launch, the game is on sale at 20 percent off.
More is scheduled behind it. The game's first paid DLC is due this year, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is expected in early 2027. IGN reports that Pearl Abyss is also researching multiplayer modes and potential sequels, following the game's commercial performance so far.
Crimson Desert launched on March 19 and sold quickly, crossing 6 million copies less than three months after release. Eurogamer called the Enhanced reveal one of the more surprising announcements of Gamescom Opening Night Live, on the grounds that it was a trailer for a game that is already out.
