Pearl Abyss has released a Crimson Desert update built around trading, adding 133 new trading posts and rebuilding the action RPG’s economy around supply and demand. PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun both covered the patch, whose full notes Pearl Abyss published on its own site.
The new posts include a merchant at the Pailune Trading Post, and some of them only open after players work through certain quests. The types and quantities of goods available at trading posts have been rebalanced across the board, and posts that are harder to reach by wagon now pay out more. Selling too much of a single item in one place pushes its price down, the mechanic both outlets describe as the update’s supply-and-demand layer. Trade profits have risen in general.
More goods, and easier hauling
The patch introduces 24 new types of high-value goods and four new types of regular goods. Packaged goods now stack to either 10 or 100 depending on their cost, players can sell a single trade good rather than a full package, and goods can be moved between a wagon and a horse.
Seven new wagon workshops around Pywel double as intermediate trading posts and let players package and load trade goods. Smaller changes include wagon routes appearing on the minimap while riding, a trade tab added to the map, and a cap of 40 gold bars on what can be gained or lost through bank interest.
PC Gamer reported that the reaction on social media has been a mix of surprise and scepticism, with players questioning how many people used wagon trading before the rework.
I'm actually baffled. I thought like three people actually did wagon trading.
The update also carries a set of smaller fixes, including challenges that could not previously be completed and revised interaction animations for animals. Rock Paper Shotgun noted that Crimson Desert has continued to receive updates at a near-weekly pace months after release.
