Pearl Abyss has announced Charting the Unknown, the first post-launch DLC for Crimson Desert, and dated it for October 15. Eurogamer reported that the developer unveiled the expansion during Sony's State of Play showcase on September 3, and noted that it had not taken the game long to line up new content after release.
The DLC adds a new set of story missions built around Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, who travel deeper into the continent of Pywel. Eurogamer said the trailer shown at the showcase also gave a first look at homesteading and home-building features, and included what appeared to be a marriage proposal and a romance feature.
Pre-orders are open. Two sets, the Charter's set and the Charter's Light Diving set, are offered as the pre-order bonus. Eurogamer noted that downloadable content for Crimson Desert had been known about since June, when it emerged that the game would get DLC at some point, without a date attached at that stage.
The announcement follows the Crimson Desert Enhanced upgrade, which Eurogamer described as a free update bundling all previously released patches together with new skills, story enhancements, localizations in several additional languages, a revamp of how characters earn and equip skills, and other changes.
Eurogamer also noted that the Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert, which Pearl Abyss announced in August and has said is in development, was not part of the State of Play presentation; the outlet put the omission down to obvious reasons. The developer said at the time of that announcement that it was exploring multiplayer and live service models for the franchise.
