Dead by Daylight will add a Survivor chat wheel in its fall mid-chapter

Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that a chat wheel for Survivors is coming to Dead by Daylight in the fall mid-chapter update, the studio said during a developer Q&A held on the game’s Reddit page and reported by PCGamesN.

The wheel gives Survivors a set of preset messages so they can signal their intentions without voice chat. Associate product director Justin said the feature is aimed primarily at solo players, and that a shared vocabulary also helps the balance team, because the information Killers face will vary less from match to match. It will launch in the standard 1v4 mode and for Survivors only, with the studio expecting its use to widen over time.

Asked about a match replay system, a long-standing community request, Justin said several members of the team want it but that it should follow the studio’s larger upcoming update rather than precede it. Building a replay system now, he said, would mean converting the whole thing afterwards.

Ten years of systems under review

Much of the Q&A dealt with the weight of a decade of additions. Senior game designer Jeff Melo said the offering system as a whole is something the team wants to revisit, refining what offerings are for and how much they matter, and that reducing the number of add-ons while making the survivors of that cull more impactful is under discussion. Melo described both as longer-term plans still being debated internally, complicated by the number of characters now in the game.

Senior design director Daniel Drapeau said Behaviour is reviewing all of its progression tracks and systems, and characterised progression as an ongoing discussion rather than a settled plan.

The developers also addressed recent misses, reflecting on the reception of the Black Banquet event and the Grimoire chapter, and discussed the prospect of new game modes. Killer bots in custom games were confirmed as another item on the roadmap.

None of the longer-term changes carry a date. The Survivor chat wheel is the only item from the session with a stated release window, in the fall mid-chapter.
