Toby Fox has released Deltarune patch v0.0.253 and confirmed it will be the last update Chapter 5 receives, Polygon reports.
The official Deltarune account posted the full patch notes on July 30. Most of the listed changes fix bugs in earlier chapters, but the patch makes one substantial addition to Chapter 5 itself.
Every chapter of Deltarune so far has included an optional Shadow Crystal boss, a challenge encounter for players who want to test themselves. Chapter 5's is Pink, the final such fight in the game, and the new patch gives players two ways to adjust it.
After losing to Pink once, a Pink Bomb now appears outside the combat arena. Interacting with it offers a choice between two settings.
- Nicer adds an indicator showing where explosions will land and makes bombs take a sixth of a second longer to detonate.
- Meaner increases Pink's damage output by 25 percent and slightly raises the speed of some attacks.
- Both options activate the bomb explosion hitbox one frame later.
The notes nudge players toward the harder setting, adding the line that "Girls like it when you are better at dodging danmaku." Players who beat Pink on Meaner receive a reward of sorts: in the post-fight cutscene she plants a series of kisses on protagonist Kris. Polygon reports that nothing else in a playthrough appears to change based on the difficulty a player wins on.
The rest of v0.0.253 is maintenance. Polygon describes the bulk of the notes as fixes for bugs in earlier chapters rather than changes to Chapter 5's content, which leaves the Pink difficulty options as the patch's only substantive addition for players working through the newest chapter.
Fox closes the patch notes by stating that the team has no further plans to update Chapter 5, and that development now moves entirely to Chapter 6, the penultimate entry in Deltarune's story. Chapter 6 is currently planned for a 2027 release.
