Diablo 4’s Rebirth lets Eternal characters move to the Seasonal realm

The 3.2.0 test build converts an Eternal character into a Seasonal one, keeping its name, class, cosmetics and playtime but resetting it to level one.

Blizzard has opened the Diablo 4 3.2.0 Public Test Realm, and the headline addition is Rebirth, a feature that lets a player convert a character from the game’s permanent Eternal realm into a Seasonal one.

Diablo 4 splits play between Eternal, the default persistent state of the game, and Seasonal, where live-service content lands. Eternal receives balance and gameplay changes in patches but not seasonal content, which has meant players wanting the new content have had to build a new character every season. Blizzard has previously declined to change that.

Instead of having to create a new character at the start of each season, you’ll be able to select an Eternal character to continue their adventures in the Seasonal realm.

What carries over, and what does not

Rebirth is not a transfer of power. A converted character is reset to level one. What survives the move is its class, name, appearance and state — Normal or Hardcore — along with cosmetic preferences including transmogs and pigments, mounts and accessories, pets, portals and headstones. Accumulated playtime carries across as well.

Gear does not. Blizzard advises moving items into an Eternal stash before using Rebirth, and the game enforces this: a character cannot be reborn until it has no items equipped or in its personal inventory. Players get a warning before confirming, with the option to remove all items or destroy them.

Eurogamer notes the practical limit of the feature: because progress resets, what Rebirth preserves is an identity rather than a character build, which is a partial answer to what players had asked for.

The PTR build itself is deliberately thin. Blizzard says 3.2.0 is a preview of Season 15 and that much of the season’s content is being held back, with a fuller reveal planned for BlizzCon in early September. MassivelyOP reports soul splinters among the features available to test now. Season 15 is scheduled to begin on September 15, after BlizzCon concludes.
