Dragami Games has announced a live-action Lollipop Chainsaw film, revealed as part of Tokyo Game Show 2026 with full details reported by Deadline on September 18. IGN, Polygon and Destructoid all described the project as a prequel to the 2012 action game and an R-rated action comedy built around its protagonist, Juliet Starling.
IGN published a synopsis attributed to Deadline: when a zombie outbreak engulfs Juliet's school, she fights through the undead to save her friends, protect her family and keep her boyfriend Nick close, by unconventional means.
An international team, no director yet
IGN reported that the film is in development with an international creative and production team including Nada Holdings' Joe Teng, former ZDF Studios drama head Robert Franke, Throne Inc managing director Takafumi Yuki, Ambitious Entertainment's Kirk Shaw and Non Stop TV's Patricio Rabuffetti. Polygon reported that no director and no major Western studio are attached at this stage, and that the project has no announced cast or release date. Destructoid reported that the film grew out of an effort to find what it called a new model for taking Asian franchises global.

Franke, one of the film's producers, said the intent is a film that stays true to the spirit of Lollipop Chainsaw while standing on its own, one longtime fans would recognize and newcomers could watch as a standalone action-horror comedy.
Gunn and Suda51 are not attached
James Gunn, who helped write the original game before directing Guardians of the Galaxy and taking over DC Studios, is not involved, according to Polygon and Destructoid. IGN reported that there is no word on the involvement of Gunn or series creator Goichi "Suda51" Suda, which it took to mean neither is attached at this stage.
Lollipop Chainsaw was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and released in 2012 to mixed reviews before becoming a cult title. Dragami acquired the rights in the early 2020s, announced the RePop remaster in 2022 and launched it in 2024. The film joins an anime series and Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, the sequel Dragami revealed earlier in the same Tokyo Game Show week.
