EA FC 27 Career Mode adds player-made Creator Challenges

Custom objectives are built in a companion portal and shared by code, and EA says well-received entries may be added to the game.

EA Sports FC 27 will let players write their own Career Mode objectives and share them with other players, a feature the publisher is calling Creator Challenges. Dexerto reported the details from a preview event it attended ahead of the game’s closed beta.

Challenges are built through a portal available on the companion mobile app or on PC, then shared using a unique code. The examples described range from assembling a title-winning squad made up entirely of youth players to earning promotion on the hardest difficulty without spending any transfer money.

EA said challenges that prove popular may be selected and added to the game for all players. The publisher also confirmed it is partnering with content creators on a set of official Creator Challenges, which will carry exclusive rewards such as kits themed on the creator who set the challenge.

Takeovers built around the community

Senior game design director Pete O’Donnell said the studio wants these creator takeovers to produce objectives the design team would not have thought of, and that reach is not the only qualifier.

We hope they’re going to create amazing challenges different from what we’re thinking. Whether that’s creators promoting their challenges or some guy in his bedroom or on Reddit, and he gets 1,000 people playing it, we want to bring that in as well.

The feature is one of several changes coming to Manager Career Mode this year. Dexerto reported that the mode is also getting more realistic transfer behaviour and dynamic overall ratings, though EA has not published a full breakdown of how either system works.

The publisher has not said how challenge submissions will be moderated, how the selection process for promoting a community challenge into the game will work, or whether the portal will be available to players on every platform the game ships on. Players will get their first look at the changes in the EA FC 27 closed beta, which the report said begins on August 5.
