Konami has released version 6.0.0 of eFootball, the update that opens the free-to-play football game's 2026/27 season, Video Games Chronicle reports. Alongside a Custom Tournament feature and a substantial set of gameplay changes, the release includes a daily mini-game built by PlatinumGames, the studio behind Bayonetta and Nier: Automata.
Daily Super Play
The mini-game, called Daily Super Play, can be attempted once a day and rewards the player with bonus content if they succeed. Each day it picks a player at random from a Special Player List and runs an animation of them scoring a memorable goal. The user has to press a button, or tap the screen on the mobile version, in time with an on-screen icon in order to perform the move properly, in the manner of a rhythm action game. The example shown during Konami's eFootball Connect broadcast had Lionel Messi dribbling past five android-like players before finishing.
The commission is the latest in a run of collaborative work for PlatinumGames, which has seen heavy turnover since director Hideki Kamiya left in 2023 and at least five other directors — Abebe Tinari, Takahisa Taura, Yusuke Miyata, Kenji Saito and Masaki Yamanaka — followed him out. The studio co-developed last year's Ninja Gaiden 4 with Team Ninja, did additional work on Final Fantasy 15 and created a mini-game for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It is also developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
What else is in 6.0.0
The patch notes list a wide set of additions and changes on the pitch and in team management:
- Custom Tournament, which lets users create tournaments and play them together.
- A new command, Dynamic Volley, and a new Team Playstyle called Overload.
- Playing Styles split into Attacking and Defensive, with each player now assigned one, the other, or both; the new styles added skew defensive.
- Fluid Formation added as a Game Plan option, along with Prioritize Base Team in the Auto-Pick Players function.
- Attacking and Deep Line removed from Individual Instructions in the Game Plan.
- Backup Player Slots raised to a maximum of 900 and manager slots to 100.
- Substitutes now appear in an opponent's Game Plan, and Game Plan stats show during Player Progression and on players in the Reserves.
Konami has also refreshed the squad data. Team structures have been updated with new-season data for competitions including the English, Spanish, Italian, Belgian, Swiss and Danish leagues and their second divisions where applicable, plus Ligue 1 McDonald's and Ligue 2 BKT, the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie, Liga Portugal Betclic, the Scottish Premiership, the Trendyol Süper Lig, Thailand's BYD SEALION 6 LEAGUE 1 and Japan's 2026/27 MEIJI YASUDA J1 and J2 leagues. The Moroccan League has been added and licences updated, with strips, emblems, boots, balls, stadium graphics, player data, music and commentary all revised.
One change sits outside the game itself: as a measure to strengthen protections for minors, a parent or legal guardian may now be required to use k-ID and provide consent before a user in certain countries or regions can play.
