The group stage of Stake Pulse Beat I has concluded in Stockholm, cutting the $60,000 tournament down to the eight teams that will contest the playoffs, according to HLTV.
HOTU, the second-highest VRS-ranked team heading into the event, were the first of the bigger names to fall. HLTV reported that they were upset by G2 Ares and EAC in Group A. Metizport also failed to advance, coming up short against fnatic and Johnny Speeds in Group D.
Both of the sides that accounted for HOTU carried on: G2 Ares and EAC came through Group A, while fnatic and Johnny Speeds advanced from Group D at Metizport's expense. All four are in the last eight.
Liquid topped their group with a default win over atputies followed by a narrow victory against Betclic. The tournament is the second stop on a three-leg tour that began in Malta at the BLAST Bounty Finals and that will also take in Paris for the open qualifier for the Esports World Cup.
The quarter-final draw
Liquid meet 9INE in the last eight. G2 Ares, whom HLTV described as the surprise package of the tournament so far, face Johnny Speeds, with the Spanish-branded side hoping Julius "Junyme" Meyhoff can extend his form after the Danish player posted a 1.66 rating across the group stage.
The remaining two ties pit Acend against Betclic, who are playing with Sebastian "fr3nd" Kusmierz as a stand-in, and fnatic against EAC. HLTV published the quarter-final schedule alongside its report.
