ZeniMax Online has begun public test server testing for The Elder Scrolls Online, ahead of an update due to launch on September 28, MassivelyOP reports. Update 51 was one of the major releases originally planned for 2026, and it is still coming despite the layoffs at the studio, with only a slight delay.
The test rollout is staggered rather than delivered in one block, so that each activity gets focused testing instead of competing for testers. Live on the PTS now are the rumour system, the High Seas of Tamriel event and the season one player experience improvements. The Nowhere Vault challenge and two solo dungeons follow later in the month.
The dates, in order
- September 28: Update 51 launches with Nowhere Vault, the rumour system and the quality-of-life changes
- September 30: the High Seas of Tamriel event begins
- October 21: season two launches, including the solo dungeons Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices
MassivelyOP notes that the test is confusing to read because it mingles content out of order, and that not everything currently playable on the PTS is arriving in September. The two solo dungeons on test this month, for instance, belong to the October season rather than to the update itself.
The quality-of-life list
The quality-of-life changes shipping with the update include achievement pinning, a customisable HUD on keyboard platforms, hybridisation, antiquities improvements and transmute stations in Cyrodiil, alongside a housing tab sorter, quest starter language and Eidetic Memory improvements. ZeniMax Online lists them together as a single pass rather than as headline features.
Game director Nick Giacomini set out the wider timing in a post last week, including the work that has moved into 2027: Update 52, the new Crimson Veldt trial and the next stage of the class and combat refresh. That post is also where the September 28 date sits, after the update had originally been slated to land earlier in 2026.
