Embracer Group has narrowed the release windows for three of its larger projects. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Darksiders 4 and the next Kingdom Come game from Warhorse are all scheduled for the company's 2027/28 financial year, chief executive Phil Rogers said in the group's latest earnings report, as covered by IGN and Polygon.
In calendar terms that means a launch between April 1, 2027 and March 31, 2028, since Embracer's financial year ends on the latter date. IGN notes the obvious caveat: this is a window as it stands, and game development moves.
Where Tomb Raider stands
Catalyst had been announced for 2027 before slipping last month to a vaguer 2028, so the disclosure tightens rather than delays it. Polygon reports it will be the first entirely new entry in the series since 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider closed out the Survivor Trilogy, and that it sits in the franchise's unified timeline after the events of 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld. Developer Crystal Dynamics, acquired by Embracer in 2022, has been through several rounds of layoffs since, most recently in March, when 20 employees were affected.
The other Tomb Raider project is closer. Legacy of Atlantis, an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original 1996 game, is due on February 12, 2027, having also slipped from an earlier date. Metro 2039 shares that February 2027 window, and Embracer said momentum for it is strong, reporting that it reached one million wishlists faster than any title in the company's history and that wishlists continue to grow ahead of expectation.
Warhorse's second project
Warhorse is working on more than the next Kingdom Come. The studio is also making an open-world Middle-earth RPG, using rights Embracer holds, with no release window attached. Details remain thin, including which era of Tolkien's setting it covers, though the team is led by Viktor Bocan, design director on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
One nearer-term date also moved: the previously delayed real-time strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 now launches in December 2026.
