Endless Legend 2 left early access on Thursday, September 17, with Amplitude Studios shipping version 1.0 of its fantasy 4X strategy game. The launch adds a sixth major playable faction and two rogue factions, PCGamesN reported. The game had been in early access since September 2025.
The Sandshapers
The new faction is the Sandshapers, which Amplitude describes as "daunting to play, but powerful". They rely on food to grow but cannot draw it from fertile areas, and they gain no yields from tiles adjacent to rivers or lakes. They also cannot cross water or build bridges — a significant constraint on the flooded world of Saiadha. Their route around it is terraforming: by uncovering special ruins that only they can see, the Sandshapers turn land into sand tiles that only they benefit from.
Two rogue factions
The two rogue factions are variants built on existing groups. The Order of Zelevas turns the Kin of Sheredyn into conquerors whose power scales with the number of territories they hold; PCGamesN reported that they have moved away from the traditional Holy Commandments, trading them for loyalty-based benefits and the ability to replenish their forces with Dust.
The Severed Claws are a Necrophage group cut off from the Matriarch and therefore without the larva the faction normally turns into soldiers. Instead of consuming the factions they defeat, they enslave them, converting the conquered into warriors and workers. That makes their strengths and weaknesses vary with whichever groups they have absorbed.
PCGamesN put the roster’s appeal in its asymmetry, writing that no two groups play the same, and pointed to the machine hivemind known as The Aspects, which spreads coral growths across the map that benefit allies and so encourages cooperation, and the returning Necrophage, who consume everything to feed an evolving insect army.
Endless Legend 2 is discounted by 50% for the launch window, at $24.99 / £22.49 on Steam through Wednesday, September 30.
Amplitude said early access "was never just about playing the game early, it was about building a better game together with the community", and that "there’s plenty more planned for the future".
