Fields of Mistria leaves early access with marriage and a chicken mount

NPC Studio has closed two years of early access with a 1.0 release that finishes the main story and finally lets players propose, marry and raise a child.

Fields of Mistria has left early access. Developer NPC Studio released the farm sim’s 1.0 version on Wednesday, two years to the day after the game first went into early access, closing out its main story and adding the relationship content that had been held back until the full release.

Marriage is the centrepiece. The NPC heart level cap has been raised to 10, and reaching that level with a character the player is dating unlocks a proposal event. An Engagement Ring becomes craftable at a Forge once a 10-heart relationship is reached, and wedding details — flower colour, cake flavour and the meal served at the reception — are chosen through planning dialogue with the player’s fiancé in the days before the ceremony. In the weeks after a marriage, a cutscene delivers a Mystical Feather that triggers an optional family planning conversation for players who want a child.

Two previously unfinishable quest lines, The Town Repair and The Museum, can now be completed. NPC Studio has also added two new quests, Saturday Market Plaza and Repair the Bell Tower, and raised the Town Renown cap to 100.

What else the 1.0 update brings

  • A Big Chicken mount for riding around town.
  • Seven new perks across cooking, ranching and woodcrafting.
  • A Saturday Market that sells Crystal Resonators and Song Crystals for customising farm and house music.
  • House exterior styles, unlocked after the house is fully upgraded.
  • Two new museum sets, Honey and Terrarium Treasures, with associated rewards.
  • A "Friday Night at the Inn" storyline that follows the Mines storyline.

Beta localizations have been added in seven languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. NPC Studio says every feature and all content of the 1.0 update is available regardless of the language selected, but warns that some text may be missing or incomplete and will temporarily appear in English while the translations are improved.

Existing players do not need to restart. The new story quests and the romance and marriage scenes fall after progress already made, and the newly added Steam achievements are awarded retroactively, though players can choose to start a fresh save without them. The update also cuts the game’s VRAM usage by more than half and fixes startup errors that had prevented the game running on some older PCs; a hotfix has since addressed a launch crash introduced by the new localized languages.

Fields of Mistria is available on Steam. PC Gamer reports a current price of $12.59 (£10.61), and says there is no console release yet.
