Square Enix has released patch 7.55 for Final Fantasy 14, an update that winds down the Dawntrail expansion ahead of next year's Evercold. The patch closes several quest series that have run across the expansion and makes a further adjustment to one of the game's hardest encounters.
The headline addition is the conclusion of the Phantom Weapons relic quest line, which means every Dawntrail relic weapon can now be upgraded to its final tier. Square Enix has also cut the cost of enhancing further Phantom Weapons once a player has finished their first, easing the grind for anyone chasing more than one. Completing the quest sends players into North Horn, a newly added area within Occult Crescent, the expansion's large-scale field operation. The full patch notes carry an extended rundown of Occult Crescent's systems, including the addition of Blue Mage and Black Mage as phantom jobs.
Patch 7.55 also ends two other long-running series. The Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, the comedic side story that has continued through Dawntrail, reaches its conclusion, as do the expansion's allied society quests.
A tweak for Dancing Mad
Players still working on Dancing Mad (Ultimate) get another small quality-of-life change. Visibility on Celestriad, an ability Kefka uses in the fight's fifth and final phase, has been improved by enlarging the elemental icons the mechanic relies on. It follows a hotfix last month that addressed a segment involving panels that sent players in different directions.
The rest of the update is cosmetic. Patch 7.55 adds a new hairstyle, mounts, emotes and several furnishings, along with a chocobo barding that dresses the mount in a picnic outfit topped with a large bonnet. Square Enix has published the complete list of changes on the Lodestone.
The next update, patch 7.56, is due in September and will begin setting up the Evercold expansion.
