Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be shown again before the end of the month. Polygon reports that Square Enix has confirmed, in a post on X, that game director Naoki Hamaguchi will appear in person at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25 to present the game.
Opening Night Live is the broadcast staged immediately before Gamescom, the European trade show, by the same team that produces Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards. Like those showcases, it mixes first reveals with updates on games already announced; Polygon points to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight as the titles that headlined last year.
What Square Enix has and has not said
The publisher has not described what the segment will contain. Polygon notes that the game was announced at Summer Game Fest in June and that a great deal remains unshown, raising the prospect of a first look at the return to Midgar or a release date. Neither has been confirmed, and Square Enix has committed only to Hamaguchi appearing.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is one of several titles already lined up for the broadcast. Polygon lists the others confirmed so far:
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and its Songs of the Past expansion
- Metro 2039
- Silent Hill: Townfall
- Aion 2
- Cinder City
- Project Bonfire
A crowded end to August
Polygon describes the show as already packed with several weeks of teases still to come, so the line-up is likely to grow before the broadcast. Gamescom Opening Night Live begins at 2 p.m. ET on August 25. No running order has been published, so it is not known at what point in the show Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will appear.
The appearance also lands days before Rockstar's extended Grand Theft Auto 6 look, which is scheduled for Netflix on August 27 — a sequencing Polygon notes puts Square Enix's showing narrowly first.
