Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is expected to take up around 200GB of storage, director Naoki Hamaguchi said in an interview with VGC that was reported by IGN, Eurogamer, PC Gamer, Polygon and GameSpot on September 18.
Hamaguchi gave the estimate when asked about the additional downloads required by the game's physical release, and said the figure was not yet final.
Things are still getting worked out, but it's probably going to be around 200GB of game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent.
Because of that size, the physical edition will not contain the complete game, and disc owners will need to download the remaining data. Hamaguchi said Square Enix still wanted to offer a physical product at a time when discs may be dying out, describing that as important to the team. Polygon noted that the required download also means disc players will receive any day-one fixes.
If the estimate holds, Revelation will be considerably larger than its predecessors. Eurogamer listed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at 145.2GB on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2, 91GB on Xbox and 155GB on PC, while PC Gamer noted that Final Fantasy 7 Remake requires 100GB of free space on Steam. Revelation's official PC system requirements had not been published at the time of PC Gamer's report.
Hamaguchi addressed the reaction in a separate post on X, reported by IGN, acknowledging that a larger file size does not necessarily make a better game. He described Revelation as the culmination of more than 10 years of work by the development team and the conclusion of the remake series.
Vincent and Sephiroth DLC
In the same interview, Hamaguchi confirmed two post-launch DLC packages focused on Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth, according to Eurogamer. He compared them to Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Intermission episode in digging deeper into individual characters, and declined to say whether the stories take place in the past or the present.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
