Square Enix has dated Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, confirming the release during Sony's State of Play broadcast on September 3. The game is the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, closing the story that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Sony's PlayStation Blog announced the date for PlayStation 5. Polygon, Video Games Chronicle and Eurogamer reported that the game arrives the same day on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox and PC; Eurogamer and Video Games Chronicle give the Xbox SKUs as Series X/S, and Eurogamer described the simultaneous worldwide release as a first for the series. The finale had previously carried a spring 2027 window.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi presented the date in a new trailer, and Square Enix followed it with more than ten minutes of gameplay, according to Polygon. Dexerto reported that the release-date trailer closed the showcase. GameSpot and Square Enix's own news site carried the same April 8, 2027 date.
What the gameplay showed
The PlayStation Blog said Revelation is set in an open world that players cross using the Highwind airship, which Polygon reported doubles as the party's customizable base of operations. The chocobo companion Piko returns as both a mount and a combat ally that grows stronger alongside the party, and a grappling gun lets characters scale rooftops. Players can swap between party members while exploring and choose which member takes on certain quests, a decision that changes how some story events unfold.
Combat adds the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, shortened to FITS, which ties move sets to four uniforms: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner. Equipping one alters a character's abilities and appearance, and Sony's post pointed to Cid in the Knight suit and Vincent in the Summoner. The card game Queen's Blood returns with a new campaign centered on Red XIII and opponents that can change the flow of a match. Polygon also noted an option to fast-forward through cutscenes.
Editions, pre-orders and the physical release
Pre-orders opened on the PlayStation Store on September 3, with the Mecha-Chocobo and Moogle Summon Materia offered across all editions. The Premium Edition bundles the game, a Story Expansion Pass covering two story-focused DLC, access 24 hours before release, the Reclaimant Choker accessory and a set of consumable items. The Premium Plus Edition adds a digital art book, a digital mini soundtrack, the Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia, the Nymphwing Bracelet armor and the Risk Taker's Choker.
Video Games Chronicle reported on September 4 that the physical release ships on a single disc or cartridge on every format and needs a download before it can be played, where Remake and Rebirth each shipped on two discs. The disclaimer Square Enix published for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions reads:
An internet connection is required to download additional game data in order to play the physical version of the game.
The outlet said the Switch 2 release is a Game-Key Card requiring 130 GB of storage, and that install sizes for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions have yet to be confirmed. In its release-date report, Video Games Chronicle said Hamaguchi has told players the base game marks the definitive end of the trilogy's story, with no epilogue DLC to follow.
