Final Fantasy XI's August update adds Adoulin notorious monsters

Square Enix has dated the update to August 12 and paired it with a free-return window, storefront discounts and a Nomad Mog Bonanza.

Square Enix has set August 12 for Final Fantasy XI’s August version update, which adds a new group of notorious monsters to the game’s Seekers of Adoulin areas.

In its announcement, the publisher said the additions are the first installment of the feature and are aimed at players who have already gathered the armor available through Ambuscade, positioning them alongside Unity Wanted as content that offers equipment of a similar level. Square Enix said it will also adjust monster spawn locations and the method for obtaining rewards in those zones. The post carries the studio’s standard caveat that names, values and other specifications remain under development and subject to change.

The update also brings a collaboration with Wizardry Variants Daphne. MassivelyOP, which covered the announcement, reported that the crossover includes a cosmetic mask and that the update ships alongside a regular Ambuscade rotation.

A free-return window and storefront discounts

Square Enix opened a Return Home to Vana’diel campaign on August 7, under which former Final Fantasy XI players can play at no cost until 1:00 a.m. PDT on August 17. A separate discount campaign runs until 1:00 a.m. PDT on August 31 and covers three purchases:

  • Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition — 67 percent off
  • Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack — 50 percent off
  • World Transfer Service — 50 percent off

The publisher said it is planning further campaigns and seasonal events across the promotion period, framing the window as a chance for both returning and new players to catch up before the update lands.

Two more campaigns begin on August 13. The August login campaign hands out cosmetic gear, while the Midsummer’s Nomad Mog Bonanza returns as a number-guessing event: players buy a Bonanza pearl from a Bonanza Moogle for 200,000 gil and have a three-digit number inscribed on it, with prizes awarded across four ranks depending on how many digits match the number drawn later.

MassivelyOP noted that players who want to return early can do so now, with the version update itself following on August 12.
