Square Enix has brought the Sunbreeze Festival and the Green Festival back to Vana'diel in Final Fantasy XI Online. Both run from Saturday, July 25 at 1:00 a.m. PDT until Tuesday, August 11 at 7:59 a.m. PDT, according to the announcements posted to the game's PlayOnline topics page.
The Sunbreeze Festival is the larger of the two and returns with its usual summer trappings: lively music, fireworks, and special moogle stalls. Its centrepiece is the Superheroine Stage Show, staged in San d'Oria, Bastok and Windurst, from which players can obtain the Mumor and Mumor II alter egos.
The Green Festival runs alongside it in Lower Jeuno, where a special cafe offers a range of Morbol-themed items.
The Festival Dial
Square Enix has attached a reward track to the festivities. Players can earn up to one #FES dial key per Earth day, which is used with the Gobbie Mystery Box to access the Festival Dial. The publisher says that dial holds spoils from content such as high-tier mission battlefields and high-tier avatar battlefields.
Ways to earn a #FES dial key
- Being named MVP in the Superheroine Stage Show
- Completing the more difficult versions of the stall minigames while wearing the outfit earned from the show
- Exchanging points acquired from the Piscine Pursuits minigame
Chicken Knife II and Uka Statue return
A separate announcement covers a trial run at making older, hard-to-obtain items available again. Square Enix says countless items have been added to Final Fantasy XI over the years, some of them tied to limited-time events that are not scheduled to return, and that it is introducing this opportunity on a trial basis to either bring those items back or provide an easier, limited-time route to them.
The two eligible items this time are the Chicken Knife II, a chocobo-themed dagger, and the Uka Statue, which provides a Moghancement effect when placed in a Mog House. Both are available over the same July 25 to August 11 window as the festivals.
To claim either, players speak to the Curator Moogle in Chateau d'Oraguille, the Metalworks or Heavens Tower's Clerical Chamber to check what the trade requires, take part in the seasonal event or other qualifying activities, and then hand the necessary items to the moogle for the reward.
