Fortnite trials faster late-game storm circles in a live update

Epic says players will have "less time to rotate late" and is asking for feedback on the trial, which ships with a round of weapon tuning.

Fortnite's battle royale mode is now closing its late-game storm circles faster, a change Epic Games is running as a trial rather than as a settled tuning pass, PCGamesN reported. Early-match movement around the island is unaffected, according to the outlet's account of the update; the compression lands in the closing stages, where Epic said players will have "less time to rotate late."

Epic framed the change as provisional and asked for player reaction rather than presenting it as final. Its Fortnite status account called it "an active trial and we want your feedback," then put two questions to players: whether the pacing feels better, and whether late rotations are still doable. The account invited comments on the change, PCGamesN reported, without setting out how long the trial would run or what would decide whether it stays.

Weapons retuned alongside the storm

The storm change did not ship alone. PCGamesN reported that the same update thins out the loot pool's pistols, with fewer of them found in the world, while Shock Rocks now drop in double stack size for a maximum of four. Several named weapons were adjusted at the same time.

  • Surgical Burst Rifles deal more damage
  • Warforged Assault Rifles are faster and more accurate
  • Bank Shot Pistols drop more often and deal more damage
  • The Mythic Rapid Fire SMG holds more bullets per magazine
  • The Mythic Ranger Pistol deals less damage overall

Epic attributed the Surgical Burst Rifle and Warforged Assault Rifle changes to both weapons having settled into what it called a more limited role since the season launched, according to PCGamesN's account of the update. The two adjustments pull in the same direction: more damage for the burst rifle, and better handling for the assault rifle.

One item was cut back rather than tuned sideways. Epic said Guardian Shields had "grown too powerful" since their reintroduction to Zero Build, and they now recharge more slowly and drain faster when at full charge. Taken together with the storm change, the update pushes against players who hold position and wait out a match rather than moving between circles.
