Frictional annual report points to a new Amnesia: The Dark Descent in 2026

A line in the studio's financial filing says a new version of the 2010 horror game is planned for late 2026, without saying what form it takes.

Frictional Games plans to release a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent in late 2026, according to the studio's latest annual report.

PC Gamer reports that the line appears in a filing published in June and went unnoticed until a Reddit user found it, with Insider Gaming picking it up. The document, listed as "Bokslut 2025-12" on the studio's filings page, states after a section on Frictional's next horror game Ontos that the studio also plans to release a new version of The Dark Descent in late 2026.

The report gives no further detail. PC Gamer notes that the wording covers everything from a platform port to a remaster or a remake, and that nothing in the filing narrows it down. The outlet adds that a line item in a financial report points to something more substantial than a routine port, while stressing that the document does not say so. It says it has contacted Frictional for comment.

The filing is a Swedish-language annual account, which is part of why the reference went unremarked for more than a month after publication. PC Gamer says it verified the passage in the document itself after the Reddit post surfaced it.

What else the filing mentions

The same report says Frictional's next major game is in pre-production, and that the studio's development focus has been on Ontos.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent was released in 2010, following the studio's Penumbra series, and became a reference point for first-person horror built around evasion rather than combat. PC Gamer scored it 88% at the time, praising how much of its effect came from what it withheld rather than what it showed.

PC Gamer raises the question of how the original design would land today, noting that the studio's approach to horror has changed considerably since 2010 and that the gameplay which felt novel then is now widely imitated.

Frictional has not made a separate announcement about the project, and no release date, platforms or scope have been confirmed beyond the filing's single line.
