FURIA are through to the semi-finals of the Esports World Cup after beating G2 2-1 in the quarter-finals, HLTV reports. FURIA won Ancient 13-3 and the Dust2 decider 13-4, either side of a 3-13 defeat on Anubis, sealing a top-four finish at the event.
The map order came out of a veto FURIA acknowledged carried risk. They picked Anubis and let Ancient through, neither of them maps the team is fond of, and G2 coach sAw said the sequence surprised him. G2 took Ancient as their own pick and Dust2 was left over as the decider. FURIA's performance on Ancient justified the decision, and would be a significant addition to their pool if it holds.
Ancient was G2's punish pick, a map FURIA have barely played in 2026, and it backfired badly. Beyond clutches from Guy “NertZ” Iluz and Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko, G2 got nothing going in either half and were outclassed across the board as FURIA took the map 13-3.
The script flipped on Anubis, FURIA's own pick, where G2 roared back to rescue the series. Strong mid-round calling from Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač and a sharp uptick in individual performances handed G2 a 13-3 stomp of their own and forced the series to a decider.
On Dust2 FURIA closed it out with ease. Danil “molodoy” Golubenko enjoyed a field day, while Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo out-called his opposite number throughout, in what HLTV described as one of FURIA's best displays in some time and a comfortable series win. Across the two maps FURIA won they conceded only seven rounds in total.
G2 leave Paris with a top-eight finish in Artem “r1nkle” Moroz's second event with the team. The AWPer was largely anonymous across the three maps, though the lineup is new enough that G2 are not yet expected to be running at full pace.
