Game Freak plans continuous updates for Beast of Reincarnation

A first patch due within a week adjusts the camera, enlarges text and begins what the studio describes as an ongoing effort on story pacing.

Game Freak has said it is planning a series of continuous updates for Beast of Reincarnation, the action RPG it released on Aug. 4. In a statement posted to X and reported by Polygon and Rock Paper Shotgun, the studio thanked players and said it was taking their feedback to heart.

The first patch is targeted for release within a week. Both outlets list the same set of changes.

  • Camera adjustments
  • Larger on-screen text
  • Story pacing improvements, which the studio says will continue to be tweaked in later updates
  • General bug fixes
  • Performance mode set as the default, in place of cinematic mode

A mixed launch

Beast of Reincarnation, a soulslike in which a girl and her dog fight through post-apocalyptic Japan, drew a mixed response. Polygon reported around 1,700 player reviews on Steam sitting at a mixed rating, with technical issues among the most common complaints.

Polygon's Giovanni Colantonio wrote in his review that the game kicks with breathtaking action powered by rich RPG systems, but that its identity is buried under unrefined ideas borrowed from other games. Rock Paper Shotgun's reviewer criticised pacing specifically, objecting to filler between story beats and to long cutscenes in the game's central hub.

The text size complaint was among the most widely repeated: Polygon reported that on-screen text is small enough to be difficult to read from a couch. That change, and the switch of the default graphics setting to Performance mode, are both in the first patch.

Post-launch story revisions

Game Freak described the pacing work as part of ongoing adjustments rather than a single fix, which Rock Paper Shotgun read as a signal that reworking the game’s narrative delivery will be a longer-term effort. The outlet noted that post-launch story revision has become more common for games whose narratives are criticised at release.

Publisher Fictions maintains a feedback form on its support site for players reporting issues and bugs.
