Genshin Impact version 7.0 arrives this week, taking players to Snezhnaya, the icy nation the game has referenced since launch without opening to visitors. Polygon reports that Hoyoverse will take the game offline for maintenance before the update goes live.
Maintenance begins at 3 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, August 11 — 6 p.m. EDT the same day, 11 p.m. BST, and midnight CEST on Wednesday, August 12 — and is expected to last approximately five hours. For players in Japan and eastern Australia, the downtime falls on the morning of August 12.
When 7.0 goes live
Servers are scheduled to return with version 7.0 at 8 p.m. PDT and 11 p.m. EDT on August 11, which lands at 4 a.m. BST and 5 a.m. CEST on August 12, noon JST, and 1 p.m. AEST. Polygon notes the servers can come back early or late depending on how maintenance goes, though Hoyoverse has generally held to its published windows and extended maintenance has been rare.
Players carrying resin — the game's capped energy currency — have the usual pre-update decision to make. Polygon suggests holding some back rather than spending it all, since the new region brings new materials to farm once 7.0 is live.
What the update adds
Version 7.0 returns the game to conventional numbered patches and finally moves the story to Snezhnaya, the seat of the Tsaritsa, the archon who has been collecting gnoses across the game's earlier regions. The update introduces a new cast of characters from the region, among them Odette, a five-star Cryo user.
Snezhnaya has been the most heavily foreshadowed of Genshin Impact's nations, held back through several years of releases while the game worked through Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine and the regions that followed. Full patch notes are expected with the update itself.
