Sucker Punch Productions will release Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition on October 1, bundling a new narrative expansion, a single-player combat survival mode and a set of quality-of-life updates with the base game. Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager at the studio, announced the date on the PlayStation Blog, timing the release to the game's first anniversary.
Echoes of Sekigahara
The narrative expansion, Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, is split between the present day and flashbacks to protagonist Atsu's time on the mainland. It introduces Nagato, a figure from her past who has arrived in Ezo. In the present, players explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his followers, the Vipers; in the past, they play through Atsu's time at the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment before she returned home on her quest for vengeance. The expansion adds new enemies, heavy weapons, armour sets and dyes.
Most Wanted
Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted is a single-player combat survival mode the studio describes as its spin on a roguelike. Players accept bounties to start runs, earning perks by taking down enemies and unlocking additional playable characters. Each favours a different weapon: Atsu the dual katana, Oyuki the kusarigama and Nagato the yari.
Editions and pricing
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition costs $69.99 and includes the base game, the online co-op mode Ghost of Yōtei Legends, both new pieces of content, all the in-game items previously bundled with the Digital Deluxe Edition and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Buyers can start the main game and Legends immediately, with Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted arriving in the October 1 patch.
Existing owners can buy the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99 to get both additions. Anyone who buys the Complete Edition or pre-orders the upgrade by September 30 also receives an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on October 1, a throwback to Jin's family armour from Ghost of Tsushima.
Beyond the paid content, the Complete Edition adds new tracks for Watanabe Mode that play throughout the game when it is enabled, new photo mode stamps, extra New Game+ cosmetics and trophies for both additions.
Every Ghost of Yōtei owner gets something on October 1 regardless of purchase. A free patch adds Beauty of Yōtei, a screensaver-like view of the environments of Ezo, along with the option to keep one armour set's appearance while using another set's stats and a new high contrast accessibility option. The patch, version 2.0, is dated October 1 globally and October 2 in some territories including Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Ghost of Yōtei sold 3.3 million copies in its first month on sale, IGN noted; Sony has not issued an updated figure since.
